About the Author

Chen Ri-xin, chief physician of TCM, is the chair professor and Ph.D. mentor at Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He has been honored the titles for his great works and major contributions,such as the nationally top teacher of colleges and universities of TCM,nationally prominent teacher, advanced worker by the Ministry of Health of PRC, nationally excellent worker of Science & Technology and top talent with outstanding contribution of Jiangxi Province.Prof. Chen now works as the president of the College of Acupuncture and Moxibustion of Jiangxi University of TCM, vice-president of the Affiliated Hospital as well as the head of Jiangxi Heat-sensitive Moxibustion Hospital. As the leader of key research center for Heatsensitive Moxibustion of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, he is the executive council member of China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, president of Jiangxi Acupuncture and Moxibustion Association and the Specialty Committee of Heat-sensitive Moxibustion of WFCMS.

Prof. Chen has been researching the heat-sensitization of acupoints and the principles of moxibustion for years. He has published 25 academic papers in SCI periodicals and 8 monographs on heat-sensitive moxibustion with one English version and three Japanese versions. His discovery of heat-sensitized phenomenon and its law during the process of moxibustion therapy changes the traditional cognitions on acupoints and reveals a new concept of sensitized state of acupoints. With this great discovery, a new theory of moxibustion and a new technology of heatsensitive moxibustion were established, which significantly improved the efficacy of clinical moxibustion. In 2015, Prof. Chen won the Second Class Prize of The State Scientific and Technological Progress Award of China for his great contribution on moxibustion.

Preface

Heat-sensitized moxibustion (HSM) is a new therapy with better curative effect which applies suspended moxibustion on heat-sensitized points, using burning moxa. Personalized saturated amount of moxibustion to get rid of sensitization is given to stimulate the transmission of channel qi and the heat sensitization feelings,including penetrating heat, expanding heat, transmitting heat, distal but not local heat, deep but not superficial heat, as well as none-heat sensation.
