——联合国粮农组织发表的报告显示，全世界有8.7亿人口处于饥饿中，该数字相当于美国、欧洲和加拿大人口数目的总和，即全球每八个人中仍有一人长期遭受饥饿之苦。粮农组织总干事Jose Graziano da Silva 在记者招待会上表示，如今全球出产的粮食总量足以养活所有的人，饥饿人口达到八分之一这一数字实在让人无法接受，“我们唯一能接受的数字就是零”。粮农组织警告，尽管过去20年世界人口的饥饿率逐年下降，但是不同国家和地区之间存在着巨大差距。在粮食充足的情况下，造成大规模饥饿的一个重要原因就是政府的不作为。

——韩国歌手Psy的一曲《江南Style》火遍全球之后，中国的“航母Style”（Aircraft Carrier Style）——舰载机指挥员下达起飞指令的手势——继而在互联网上爆红，左脚屈蹲、右臂高举的“走起”动作引发全民模仿。但与《江南Style》代表的搞笑和娱乐化不同，各大中外媒体认为“航母Style”兼具娱乐性和严肃性，更多体现出中国年轻人因第一艘航母“辽宁号”而激发的爱国热情和自豪感。北大教授张颐武也评论道：“（这表明）年轻人越来越关注祖国的强大，只不过他们选择了一种时尚、幽默的方式……我们的国家需要更多这样的姿势。“还有媒体将其视为“中国不断上升的民族自豪感”、“这个国家自己正在‘起飞’的标志”、“让全世界敬重中国的机会”等等。不知道这是否有点过度解读之嫌呢？

——当红好莱坞甜心小天后麦莉·赛勒斯（Miley Cyrus）因主演迪斯尼青少年情景喜剧《汉娜·蒙塔娜》（Hannah Montana）而迅速红遍欧美乃至亚洲。她喜欢用文身来标榜自己的特立独行和与众不同，这不，她竟然把美国前总统西奥多·罗斯福的一句广为引用的名言也文在了自己的胳膊上：“因此那些不了解胜利与失败的冷漠胆小之人永远也无法与他并肩站在这个位置上”。这句话出自罗斯福于1910年发表的一次著名演说中。赛勒斯声称她的文身都有着重要的含义，她说：“I could never get a meaningless tattoo, but I think that if you\'re doing something that\'s important, that\'s significant in your life, it takes some of the pain away.”

梦想在这里实现

When I was a pupil, my dream was to be a teacher. That dream came true. When I was a college student, my dream was to be a scientist. I believed science and technology was the driving force for modernization. That dream also came true. I did research for ten years and I enjoyed being a scientist. Whether as a student, a teacher, a scientist or a government official, I have never given up English. I could read and write, but I couldn\'t speak English. When talking with foreign friends, I could say no more than \"How do you do\", \"Good morning\", \"Goodbye\". As time went by, I lost all confidence in speaking English.

Today, my dream has come true. I am making a speech in English. First, I would like to thank Wilson. He encouraged me to come and became my partner. In the three months, we were always together like twins. He helped me with English. As a result, he speaks Chinese with a Shanxi accent now.

I would also like to thank all the teachers. They corrected my pronunciation word by word, again and again. They encouraged me to speak more and listen more. In the evening, Norman and I drank beer and talked about culture. Norman called me the best student and the drinking master. Here, I would like to thank Glen for his care. His house is very close but he stayed with us day and night. Thank you, Glen. My thanks also go to Xiao Gai, the classroom assistant. She supported me by her heart. Every morning, she was the first one to greet me with a big smile \"Good morning, Lucas\". To help me learn English better, except for tea, she served me one more coffee every day.

My dear classmates, thank you all for your help and friendship. You made me feel young again. Monitor Ethan, Wilson and Wogan made us a happy family. I will never forget you and IETP 7.

After graduation, I will return to work. English will help me supervise overseas assets of enterprises. I will work harder than ever.

Finally, I will end with an English song Lisa taught us. I thank everyone for your help.

上小学时，我的梦想是当一名教师，后来这个梦想实现了。上大学后，我的梦想是毕业后成为一名科学家，因为我相信科学技术是实现现代化的推动力。这个梦想也实现了。我从事了近十年的科学研究工作，无怨无悔。无论作为学生、教师、科技工作者还是政府官员，我始终没有丢掉过英语。我会读会写，但从来都是哑巴英语，说不出来。与外国朋友交谈中也只会“How do you do”，“Good morning”，“Goodbye”等简单词句。慢慢地，我对说英语失去了信心。
今天能站在这里用英语进行演讲，我的梦想实现了。首先，我衷心感谢王会生，是他从一开始就鼓励我（报名参加IELP 7的学习），并成为了我的学习伙伴。三个多月来我俩形影不离，他帮助了我很多，到最后他一口标准的普通话中都夹杂了山西口音。
感谢所有的老师们。是他们一遍又一遍地、一个词一个词地纠正我的发音，鼓励我多听多说。在课余夜晚，我与Norman老师边喝啤酒边聊文化。Norman 亲切地称我是他最好的学生和品酒大师。感谢刘钢（Glen）主任对我们大家生活的关心。他的家虽然近在咫尺，但却与我们吃住在一起。
